Volunteer FAQS
What is expected of me?
Come with a smiling face and a willingness to help in whatever capacity is needed! No specifc skills are required, just a desire to make a difference. We do ask that volunteers be flexible with their assignments as needs may change leading up to or even during the event.
Can I sign up for a specific task?
If you have a specific skill set or a desire to serve in a specific area, we would love to talk to you about the possibilities! Please contact Sarah Smedley at [email protected] for more information.
What kinds of tasks do you need help with?
All sorts of things! Here are some examples:
What should I wear?
We will provide a volunteer t-shirt for you to wear. Please wear comfy clothes and shoes you can do a lot of standing and walking in. Check the weather before you come and dress appropriately!
Will you feed me? And do I get breaks?
Half-Day and Full Day volunteers will be provided food and breaks in the Volunteer tent, one meal per shift. Coffee and drinks will also be available. During the event please direct all of your food and break needs to the volunteer coordinators working the volunteer tent.
Where should I park?
Parking is FREE! Please use the UAB Kirklin Clinic Parking deck located off of 6th Ave. S. between 21st and 22nd Street South. Entrance is across from the Dunkin Donuts.
Can I fundraise for the cause?
Yes please! We would love if you became a FUNdraiser along with the cyclists! To create a fundraising page please register for Magic City Cycliad (it's free!) and select the "Fundraising Only" ticket.
How do I register?
Click the link above and fill out the requested information!
What are the Pre-Event volunteer needs?
Throughout the week leading up to the event, there are a number of volunteer opportunities. These include helping sort, organize, and prep the food and supplies, working packet pick up on Wednesday night, setting out signage the day before, and helping with set up on Friday night. Both day shifts and evening shifts are available. You will be contacted by a Cycliad team member to discuss your availability.
Do you have group or corporate volunteer opportunities?
Yes! We would love to provide a service opportunity for your organization.
I'm a photographer/videographer, can I volunteer to take photos/video?
Yes please! We would love to have you use your talents to help the cause! We are in need of a team of photographers and videographers to capture all the different elements of the event, showing the world that helping is as easy as riding a bike! Please contact Sarah Smedley at [email protected] if you would like to be a part of the Photo or Video teams.
