Drew Read

Executive Director

DrewRead - 2012.jpg

An entrepreneur focused on non-profits that serve hurting people, Drew recently moved with his family to Birmingham from Vidalia, GA, home of the famous Vidalia onion. With over 21 years of nonprofit experience at the Paul Anderson Youth Home, Drew has made a career out of helping people. There are few things that motivate him more than the opportunity to identify a need and make someone’s life better. In the role of Executive Director, Drew combines his passion for helping people with a desire to help Deep South Cancer Foundation achieve tomorrow's goals today.  Drew can regularly be found immersed in developing strategy, defining the “why”, measuring data with a good excel spreadsheet, on his bike riding way too many miles to be normal, or enjoying family time with his wife and two kids.

Sarah Smedley

Director of Operations

DSCF3883-2.jpg

Sarah grew up in the Birmingham area and has loved being back after moving away for four years. While she never thought she would follow her father into the world of helping cancer patients, having multiple grandparents who have battled cancer means that cancer hits close to home. During her time with Deep South Cancer Foundation, Sarah has covered a wide range of roles. Most recently, she has discovered a passion for communication and branding. When she’s not in the office you can find her in the ballet studio rehearsing with Birmingham Ballet for their upcoming performance or at a local coffee shop enjoying a good book.
